OpenVPN Connect is the official OpenVPN app which was developed by OpenVPN Technologies in order to allow you to use all of the features provided by the original open source program on Android devices.

This tool allows you to manage any virtual private network from your Android device, just like you would from the computer with the desktop program. The only thing that you need to do is import the .ovpn network using the SD card, the OpenVPN Access Server, a private tunnel or a browser link.

Some of the most noteworthy features of OpenVPN Connect include its excellent battery control function that switches to a low consumption mode every time the screen is turned off or it detects connection problems. By doing so, it is able to save some energy.

Other features of this Android version include the use of PolarSSL, support for IPV6, and integration with Android Keychain.

WHAT IS OPENVPN CONNECT?

The OpenVPN Connect app does NOT independently provide a VPN service. It is a client application that establishes and transports data over an encrypted secure tunnel via the internet, using the OpenVPN protocol, to a VPN server.

HOW TO USE OPENVPN CONNECT?

OpenVPN Connect receives configuration information for the VPN server using a “connection profile” file. It can be imported into the app using a file with a .ovpn file extension or a website URL. The file or website URL and user credentials are provided by the VPN service administrator.
