Instagram launches Walkie-Talkie voice messaging feature

Instagram is finally launching new Walkie-Talkie feature in its Direct Messaging section or Instagram Direct wherein you can now not only share photos, texts, GIFs or video clips but also send and receive voice messages, a feature similar to Facebook's other platforms like WhatsApp and Messenger.

Walkie-Talkie feature is a part of the latest Instagram App update for both Android and iOS.
To send voice messages, Instagram users have to select one or multiple users in the Direct Section of the Instagram app and hold down the microphone button in the message bar next to camera icon and start recording the voice message which looks like an audio wave and then release the button to send the message. The message can be discarded by swiping to the left corner of the message bar. These voice messages can be up to one minute long and stay permanently unlike audio messaging feature in Apple’s messaging platform, iMessage where the video clip disappears after two minutes unless the user selects “keep” option to save them.

Instagram Direct lets you send photos or videos, posts you see in Feed, Hashtags, Locations, Text, Profiles and much more as a message to one or more people. These posts are only visible to the recipient of the messages, cannot be shared on other platforms like Twitter or Facebook and will not appear on any hashtags or location pages.
Instagram recently added new features in Direct Message section like status indicators, replay support, poll stickers and more. With the latest Walkie-Talkie feature, Instagram app is surely going to get a tough completion from apps like Telegram, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Zello, WhatsApp and Snapchat which already have mass popularity.

Walkie-Talkie feature launched by Apple in WatchOS 5, a mobile operating system of the Apple Watch provides more added voice communication functionalities like adding friends, accepting invitations, mark availability and much more giving the feel of using a real-time Walkie-Talkie.
